SDC offers ESOL classes to students ranging in age from 22-65 years of age. Many of our beginning students are not literate in either English or their heritage languages such as Somali, Amharic and some other West African languages. Somali-speakers will aid such students’ understanding and thereby expedite the English language acquisition process. This is a critical learning aid often unavailable in most other ESOL programs.

Classes are held twice a week for two hours.
The short term goal is for every adult learner or parent to be able to check their children’s grade reports, respond to correspondence from schools, health centers, or government offices, have the ability to complete forms and applications and schedule medical appointments. The long term goal is for every adult to become proficient in English skills, and be able to work routine entry level jobs.
